Written notes
Working in IT, one would assume that paper is only touched when the printers eventually jam and before starting my job a couple of years ago that was what I also thought. Paperless office, efficient note-taking apps, scrum boards, digitalization galore! Yet all my colleagues take their notes on paper and only update the digital board to keep the boss happy.
At first I tried to embrace the digital notes but quickly discovered that:
- There are too many small tasks
- Other people don't respect the system
- I enjoy the chaos too much
Post-its, to-do lists, scribbles, nice mechanical pencils, colored leads (worth its own rant honestly). The entire ecosystem around note-taking is neatly analog in contrast to modern life and that's probably the second-best thing about it all.
The best being crossing off tasks the moment they're done of course.
